    Hey guys –

Finally had a chance to play 4E last weekend. The University of Kentucky gaming club had their annual mini-con, and their fast play tables featured 4E. I played a pregen tiefling wizard.

I enjoyed combat and liked the way powers worked, but I feel like it’s exceedingly mini-oriented. I didn’t feel like it sped combat up that much, but then again, it was my first time playing.

I also wonder how 4E works and feels outside of combat. Any thoughts?

    Keep up the good work!

It works the same as every other edition of D&D outside combat. The only new addition are skill challenges that the DM can use to handle non-combat tasks. Other than that, it’s pretty much the same as every other edition: play outside of combat is really up to the GMs and players.

Luke goes on and on about having an insider account, but none of you knew about World Wide DnD Day? (According to a post I saw on the forum, correct me if I’m wrong.) It was mentioned in one of the Dragon magazines. There’s going to be one for each release, and you actually have to schedule it through the RPGA system. Yep, that’s right, the pain in the butt system. I had a hell of a time trying to explain to my local store how to set it up. I ended up having to do it myself. Luckily I’m already in the RPGA for the rewards stuff.

    Correction – each release meaning PH2, MM2, DMG2.

    I could barely hear Luke.

Did you use Levelator or a similar product?

We were just notified of the issue. The trouble is that Adam ends up resetting his sound settings almost every week. The last couple weeks I’ve been turned way down so when Joe edits he has no way to turn me up without also turning Adam up, making him too loud.

All of us have used Levelator and I don’t think any of us like even the slight tinniness it gives. We’re pretty good about manual sound balancing during editing, but with the input turned down for one person on a shared chain, it gets tough.

    We’ll fix it. :)
