Feedback Fridays 005: What’s your favorite recurring joke?

April 19th, 2012 · David · 12 Comments

The Podge Cast is a show meant to be listened to sequentially. Over the last four years, we’ve created a culture of the show. When listening, often times we’ll refer back to things we’ve said or done and make a recurring joke about them.

What’s your favorite recurring joke on The Podge?

Not really a recurring joke, but I have been practicing saying “Come on!” so that I can use it with the same level of indignation that the Podgecasters do. Let me give it a try:

“No one has commented on their favorite recurring joke yet? COME ON!”

There’s several that come to mind: Eric’s windowless van, Tablesaw, “That’s Wizards Chess”, U-Versing.

But, by the fact that it’s never fully explained and is constantly expanding, I prefer the Podge-a Sutra.

The Plinkett voice. Each host used at some point, and it gets funnier every time. Every god damn time.

The continued references to Eric’s pedophilia.

I don’t think the pedo jokes on Eric are funny really. It’s pretty low hanging fruit and combine that with the fact that pedophilia isn’t funny and is basically on par with neo-nazism in terms of social acceptance, probably lower.

My favorite jokes are the ones about peripheral characters like dr. Gamer and other acquaintances with nicknames. I would use this opportunity to rant about inside jokes that are never explained but I can’t remember any specific examples right now.

I think what’s funny to us, the hosts, about the Eric-is-a-Molester jokes are not the jokes themselves, but the way he has embraced it. He was clearly wary at first and concerned about his work colleagues/bosses catching wind of it. That made it fun for a while just to see him squirm, but it wasn’t long before he was a full participant and creeping US out – and off mics at that, so no performance involved.

Without that progression, we would have lost interest quickly. Although, not because of some perceived hierarchy of humorous subjects or sensitivity – absolutely nothing is sacred to any of us except for Luke and his Fox News.

Eric’s windowless van never ceases to make me smile. “Come on!” as suggested by Chris is also a good suggestion but I wouldn’t call it a joke. I also like it when anyone cracks themselves up and just starts laughing, it’s very contagious and a good thing I listen to the show in a loud work environment where I won’t weird my co-workers out when I can’t help but laugh along.

The Podgecast needs a return of the Watto voice.

It is funny when you make fun of Luke. I guess I just feel bad for Eric because I feel like you guys pick on him a lot, and he seems a little socially awkward. Sorry Eric if you’re reading this.

Uverse has a twisted entertainment to it. Agree with tresi. :)

i think tablesaw outside the show presence is hilarious, but the pedo-eric stuff is great.
