This Is Just Sad

July 4th, 2008 · Luke · 15 Comments

I’ve reviewed all of Joe’s musical recommendations in The Hodge and worked through some various formulae.  What I found has given credence to my initial hypothesis that Joe has horrible taste.  Matt, on the other hand, has excellent taste as my calculation rated him at a 4.567 (repeating) awesomeness value.  Every time I put Adam’s recomendations though it gave me a ‘divided by zero’ error.

People who like good music should email Joe and recommend him some more stuff that could actually be considered “music.”

Clearly this is why no one believes you’re a real doctor. Your lack of scientific ability is so apparent that your results listed here have no credibility whatsoever. Not only will I contend that the music I listed is of the utmost quality (spanning three different genres even!), but I would direct listeners to josephlselby.com where I list more of my musical interests that include additional genres (such as my love of classical music) that continues to show your lack of understanding of what makes truly great music. Certainly I could not trust a person who lists “Drive-By Truckers” as a musical recommendation. I prefer to listen to people with taste. :P

So sorry, so, so, sorry. I’m afraid I’m going to have to side with the good doctor on this one. The best I can say is that you do have occasional stokes of good taste. Let’s say 70% suck and 30% decent or better. However, keep your chin up. I hear your a fabulous lover. When you’ve got that, who cares if you have good taste in music :-P

Speaking of music, why does the intro sound like Van Halen’s “Love Comes Walking In”?

When discussing the theme with Joel, I told him I wanted something fun, catchy, and campy. He suggested 80′s synth rock and I thought it was a perfect fit.

I don’t know “Love Comes Walking In” off the top of my head, but if we sound similar then Joel has done his job well!

So do you guys have last.fm? Or is it too advanced for you guys?

I just want to know what Joe listens to.

You can see samples of all our musical tastes in The Hodge. I don’t use last.fm. I spent so many years perfecting Yahoo Launch Player to my tastes that the notion of starting over doesn’t much appeal to me. (One of the reasons I also don’t use Pandora.)

    Yeah, I don’t use last.fm either…or any service like that,actually.

As for Joe’s tastes, the only one I can agree on is Norah Jones. I’ll give him that one and that alone.

Well, I feel a lot better about Joe dissing my FtB theme music now. ;)

I got outvoted! :P (My suggestion was the first 10 seconds of “Rock” by Recycled Percussion. You can see them here: recycledpercussion.com.)

The opening music could use some serious work. Other than that, the show was a blast.

How the hell can you put Otep and Static X along with Norah “Soccer-Mom Crooner” Jones?

When I consider the hosts and content of Podgecast, 80′s synth rock doesn’t immediately come to mind. Certainly something whimsical and catchy (and shorter…definitely shorter…maybe the “kick boredom’s nuts/TPC is here” line following a melodic rock intro), but I don’t think synth rock fits TPC image. Frankly, I recoiled inwardly when I heard the first strains. I think it’s a good creative first effort that warrants reduction, honing, and alignment with image.

I liked Norah Jones’ album “Come Away with Me.” I find it incredibly soothing. At the same time, I own all of Otep’s albums and Static-X’s albums (and have seen both live multiple times). I find them invigorating. Different music for different moods. I also enjoy classical (Bach’s Cello Suite in G and Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata are both highly played on my iTunes), latin (Shakira, Gipsy Kings, Javier Mendoza Band, Juanes), electronic (I probably listen to Shawn’s music more than he does), and others. I’m a man of music! …except for that crap Matt, Adam, and Luke posted. I don’t know what that’s about. :)
