I’m going to suggest “Moribito” as newer, good, easily accessible modern anime.

Moribito has gorgeous art and animation, but it never really hooked me otherwise in the few episodes I watched. It’s certainly more accessible than the heavily cultural and parodic stuff like Bakemonogatari, though. I’ll get a hold of it and watch some more to see if it sticks, and I wouldn’t discourage anyone else from doing so.

Moribito is streaming on Netflix right now.

I’m not in the anime scene that much anymore– I’m big on the live action crap, though. But that takes a little bit of openness and inherent silliness to get into.

The best anime and single most underrated series of the past 5 years is Denno Coil. Every episode is animated just under Studio Ghibli quality and the it approaches hard sci-fi with a childhood wonder. Absolutely incredible– hunt down the fansubs in HD if you can.

Another good show is Eden of the East, by the same guys who did Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. Ouran High Host Club is a legitimately funny girls show, and Princess Tutu is Black Swan, but five years in the past and made for little girls– but just as deep and compelling as any adult work.

Also, there’s that Gurren Lagann thing.

Oh, and RahXephon is an absolutely gorgeous and well-written, understandable take on the Evangelion formula, and so worth your time its rediculous.

Um, also, you assholes still need to watch Spectacular Spider-Man. I’ve been saying for years now that its as good as Avatar: The Last Airbender, but nobody takes me up on it. It’s streaming on Netflix right now– just watch one goddamned episode and thank me.

Denno Coil is very good – it’s on the outline for our intro-to-anime episode – but I don’t love it as much as you do. Good is good, so rankings aren’t important, but of shows in the past five years, I would say I prefer Tatami Galaxy, Bakemonogatari, Nodame Cantabile, and Detroit Metal City, just off the top of my head.

Eden of the East is solid, but I really started to lose attention about 2/3 of the way through. Same for Gurren Lagann, which I have yet to finish. I have a friend who is a Princess Tutu fanatic, but I haven’t gotten around to it. You can be very into anime and still never catch up on everything that’s good.

Wow, WORST OPENER EVER. I cringed for 8 minutes straight.

I ignored really obvious physical symptoms because I didn’t want to think about them. I has diagnosed with diabetes in 2008. I can no longer feel me feet and I have had to have six laser surgery procedures to save my sight. It is amazing what you can ignore if you really want to ignore it.

I’m sorry to hear that, but I’m glad you acted and got treatment before things got even worse.

In my friend’s case, his prostate, kidneys, and bladder all appear to be fine – he was just pissing blood. You know, because he had some he wasn’t using and why not? His body has a new hobby.

So things seem to be okay and he’s keeping in touch with doctors and on top of his condition since that initial soft approach. I know that I have similar tendencies, which is why I linked the prostate cancer foundation. That shit is serious. Get checked. If one person donates or gets a check-up, then this crass episode was worthwhile.

Definitely an interesting opening, to be sure. Love Paul’s comment above about the new hobby. Amusing. No real comments about the episode other than I emailed all of my friends about the ten year old needing to ingest semen for a “wtf?”.

Screw you guys, I’m withdrawing my military support. And when I said ‘Z’ makes your words sound cooler, I was lying.
In fact, I hate you guys so much, I’m assigning Gordon Brown as our Foreign Affairs minister. We’ll see how long it takes you to take it back.
Any problems, chaps, just call me on the good ol’ dog’n'bone.
Right-o, I have some tea to be drinking, so good day to you, sirs.
