Adam has good taste in board games, Agricola is an excellent game. Its “sister game”, Le Havre, is also really excellent and feels more expansive whereas Agricola feels more constrictive, especially as the game goes on.

It is pronounced “A-grick-o-la” because, you know, Latin and stuff.

I’m far from an expert, but I took a couple years of Latin, and I thought the Latin pronunciation was more like a’grih-CO-lah. The penultimate syllable is heavy because it’s a long O, so it gets the stress.

If it were agricolarum, you’d pronounce it like a’grih-co-LAH-rum.

Actually, I think it gets that stress just because it is the penultimate syllable in general, not because it’s long. And nothing else steals the stress, basically.

If the “i” were long, and the “o” is not, it would be a’GREE-co-lah.

Well shoot you would know better than I would. I think the “i” is an “ee” sound though because in history classes I’ve taken about antiquity the i’s generally made an “ee” sound, like in “comitantes” or “limes”.

So what I’m saying is, I agri with you.
